UI / UX for Film Set Designs

Highlight Project – Kong Vs Godzilla

I have a previous history in working on VFX feature films creating virtual or Fake UI/UX (as we used to call it). So it was a natural progression for me to take those skills to the physical builds of on set films created by Art Department and the Production Designer. The screens are usually interactively triggered on set and are built to be modular for story.

This particular project is Kong V Godzilla from 2020 where we designed sets for various helicopters/aerial craft, control rooms, command centres, laptops and ships. I’ve chosen it because somehow we managed to get magenta, orange and red, rather than the usual cyan! I have worked on the spin off of the film Monarch, Monarch 2 and I am currently on a Hollywood Feature Film shooting on the Gold Coast.

People are often surprised that these types of jobs are some of my favourites. There is nothing quite like pure design, typography, everything on a grid and functionality – well, almost, the smoke and mirrors of on set needs to be taken into account.

I work for Screen Graphics Supervisor Martin Crouch usually in capacity as a Senior Designer and we are contracted to various studios.
